Tired of being asked if your Tired?

September 14, 2012

I just had another patient call our office today and say she is sick of people asking her if she is tired. In fact, although she has puffy, dark circles under eyes, she is well rested — especially now that the kids are out of the house!

Age and heredity are two major factors in how your skin appears under your eyes. Thin skin under your eyes makes your veins more visible and create the appearance of dark circles. Both men and women of all ages have darkened lower eyelids. Excess fat under your eyes can make you look older or tired. Eye creams and wrinkle treatments, such as Botox, can help minimize the appearance of eye wrinkles and under eye bags, but only plastic surgery can give you a dramatic look that you might desire.

Lower eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, involves a small incision along the lower lash line. Dr. Ness, a board-certified Minnesota plastic surgeon, will remove excess skin and fat from the lower eye while promoting patient safety and comfort and carefully close the incision so that it is difficult to find. Eyelid surgery for the lower eyes takes less than an hour and can often be performed with mild sedation.

Recovery after lower eyelid surgery varies depending on the level of bruising and swelling you experience. Using cool packs and resting with your head elevated are both tips that will help you recovery from eyelid surgery.  Our plastic surgery center staff will help you prepare for your eyelid surgery and will monitor your progress throughout recovery.

Lower eyelid surgery is cosmetic surgery and Dr. Ness offers consultations for this procedure in our Plymouth and St. Cloud plastic surgery centers.
