Breast reduction surgery can be performed for cosmetic purposes but is most often considered a medical necessity when large breasts cause a woman back, neck, and chest pain, headaches, and skin rashes. Breast reduction by Omni Cosmetic surgery can also help improve a woman’s confidence and active daily lifestyle. These patients who received care from us in Minneapolis and Saint Paul now enjoy the results of their breast reduction surgery.
Breast Reduction Consultation
Consultations for breast reduction surgery include a complete review of the patient’s medical and family history, with considerable focus on pain suffered from large breasts. After an examination and thorough discussion of breast reduction surgery, our surgeons will determine if the surgery is appropriate and if it may be considered a medical necessity with potential coverage by the patient’s insurance plan. If it is determined that believes a medical issue exists, our office will work with your insurance company to cover the cost of the examination, attain pre-authorization for the procedure and file all claims with your insurance company.
Breast Reduction Procedure
An ideal type of incision for breast reduction surgery is the anchor incision which goes along the breast crease (inframammary crease) and up and around the colored outer ring of the nipple (areola). Not only will the size of the breast improve, the position and shape of the breast, along with a reduction in the size of the areola, if desired, can be accomplished with this incision type.
Breast reduction is typically a same-day procedure that we perform at the Wayzata Surgery Center, a private, convenient, and fully-accredited outpatient surgery center located on the lower level of our building.
Breast Reduction Recovery
Following your breast reduction surgery, you will be cared for by the nursing staff in the recovery room. When you are fully awake and comfortable, you will be released to the care of a family member or friend with a list of after-care instructions.
Many breast reduction patients return to work after 5-7 days of recovery time at home. There will be guidelines for after-care, including lifting restrictions and limited exercise. We will schedule post-breast reduction surgery appointments in one of our Minneapolis metro area or St. Cloud clinics periodically, including the day after your procedure.
